Year 12 Physics SAC #3 – Class 2

Area of Study 2: How are fields used to move electrical energy?

Outcome 2:  On completion of this unit the student should be able to analyse and evaluate an electricity generation and distribution system.

Teacher Handouts:

Section 3.2.1 – Making Electricity

Section 3.2.2 – Induced EMF

Section 3.2.3 – Lenz’s Law

Section 3.2.4 – Transformers

Section 3.2.5 – Power Transmission

Jacaranda Textbook Reference:

Chapter 7 Generating Electricity

Chapter 8 Transmission of Power

Task Description:

This SAC will be formatted as a Data Analysis (written test).  Some questions will be short answer and other multiple choice. 70 minutes will be allocate to complete the task with 10 minutes of this allocated to rad over the test.

Students are permitted to bring  a scientific calculator and a single sided A4 summary sheet

How best to prepare:

Students are encouraged to read over the handouts provided by teacher and the relevant chapters from the Jacaranda text.  Stduents are advised to review the topic via Edrolo. Students are advised to produce their own single sided A4 summary sheet.  Students are advised to attempt the 2 Jacaranda topics tests (Chapters 7 & 8) as well as the VCAA 2017 practice paper (and relevant past VCAA papers).  Past itute papers may also be of benefit.

NB: This is a new study design and as such their are no past papers written specifically for this area of study.  However, using the previous study designs (ie. 2009 – 2016), the Area of Study that best matches this topic is Unit 4 – Area of Study 1 Electric Power.
