70 minute practice mid year exam – Unit 3 Physics. Period 1 on Tuesday the 9th June.
Students are permitted a double sided A4 summary sheet.
All Unit 3&4 students are required to sit the VCAA General achievement Test (GAT). Contrary to general opinion, the GAT is a very important state wide assessment tool that, if completed to the best of your ability, has the capacity to improve your individual study scores and therefore your ATAR.
All Year 12 Physics students are advised to listen carefully and ask questions when you gather with your VCE Coordinator to discuss the GAT further.
Year 12 students will be asked to complete a written task, based upon the Electric Power practical activities carried out in class. The task will be 1 period in duration and take place during period 4 on Thursday 20th August in Room 7.
Students will be permitted to have access to their practical report books which have been constructed during the term in class, prior to this assessment task.
Year 12 Physics students will attend a lab session at the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton. The day’s program will consist of a general discussion and tour of the facility (the only synchrotron in Australia) and conclude with a series of laboratory activities focussed upon the Interactions of Light and Matter area of study.
This is an excellent opportunity to visit a state of the art Australian based scientific research centre. The day’s activities provide an outstanding opportunity to hone your skills and knowledge upon both the final area of study as well as the chosen detailed study. A must for all Year 12 Physics students.
The Light & Matter SAC will take place on Wednesday the 16th September, period 1 in Room 7. This SAC will take the format of a written topic test and students are allowed to bring a single sided A4 summary sheet.
Students are advised to prepare for this SAC via the 3 NEAP practice tests provided in class, 2 Edrolo practice tests also provided in class, Jacaranda practice test (from this website) and other practice tests via itute and the VCAA websites.
The 2 hour holiday study session focusses upon the VCE Physics Unit 4 detailed study – The Australian Synchrotron.
The session is planned to be of a 2 hour duration. However, if students wish to further discuss aspects of the course, they are more than welcome to stay for longer.
Students will complete a multi-choice topic test during a single period. The test will be designed to reflect the multiple choice section of the VCAA exam. The test will be set upon the Synchrotron and its applications area of study and take during the week commencing the 14th of September.
